50 Cent Drops it in Kosovo

50 Cent becomes the first rap star to perform in Kosovo. First question: What in THE HELL is a black man doing in Kosovo? Yes, this is surely proving that hip hop has officially taken over the world. Next we will hear about Kanye West performing on Mars. With the way his head is inflated, he won't need any oxygen!

Dr Boyce Reflection on Spice 1

The artist Spice 1, a major playa on the West Coast, was shot last week while sitting inside his Cadillac Escalade. He suffered a collapsed lung and was taken to the hospital. Of all the reports I can find, it seems that he is going to make his way out of this one.

Seeing Spice 1 drop like that really hit me hard. I am about the same age as Spice, and I feel like we grew up together. Every year, he would put out an album and always mention his age: "I'm 22 with a motherf*cking beer belly. Some say I'mma a OG already". I didn't have a beer belly, but I could relate.
His other songs and ablums included titles such as: AmeriKKKa's Nightmare, 187 Proof, 1990-Sick, Immortalized, and Spiceberg Slim. I listened to this brother's music more than anyone else in the country. That's saying alot, since I listened to hip hop every single day. Powerful hip hop is a strengthener and a motivator, and highly reflective of the amazing power of black men to be strong and overcome, whether we are in the street, the classroom, the basketball court, the penitentiary or the White House. Black men are powerful, that's why America fears us so much.

Even though I was a PhD student and he was dealing with a different reality, I understood his psyche that came through in his music. Lyrics like "If them n*ggaz catch you slippin then yo ass is gone." remind every black man that your enemies are always watching. Someone, somewhere, is always waiting and hoping to send you to prison. If you are in the wrong place, at the wrong time, doing the wrong thing, you could get dropped in a heart beat. I knew that, not just while trying to navigate the traps of white america, but also while trying to break through the challenges of black america. As a black man, the odds are stacked against you, but if you are strong, you can restack the odds in your favor.

Then, the young players get older, and eventually, rather than rapping as a young G, Spice started rapping a true OG. When I met Method Man at ESPN, I meant to ask him how Spice was doing, since I almost felt like he was a friend of mine. Method Man and Spice did some joints together back in the day. Spice also got up with Tupac, C-Bo, MC Eiht and some other talented brothers.

I have long considered Spice 1 to be one of the most creative and talented artists I've ever seen. He's right up there with Tupac, Nas, TI, and Dr. Dre when it comes to bringing a genius to the game that other people cannot replicate. Yeah, he had the hard stuff like C-bo, 50 Cent and all the other gangsta rappers, but I could pick up Einstein-like intelligence in his lyrics. Also, his genius flowed through in his ability to passionately and honestly articulate his experiences and stressors in life. In other words, the boy was cold!

So, when I heard he got shot and might be dead, a part of me died too. As we were growing up together, I knew that the day would come when one day the game was behind us. I also knew that because Spice did not have mainstream status, alot of other people wouldn't be able to understand why I respect his style so much. That's cool. All I can say is that anyone who has not had a chance to hear some of this brother's stuff, you're definitely missing out.
Get well Spice, and keep the game tight.

Oh No He Didn't: Bishop Don Juan pimps out Pimp C's Funeral

A host of celebs came to pay their respect to the late rapper Pimp C on Thurs! But some got more attention than others including the entrance of Bishop Magic Don Juan read below:

Via SMH

"The funeral attracted a heavy police presence, including FBI agents. It also attracted Pimp C’s fellow rappers, including Bun B, Slim Thug, Chamillionaire, Mike Jones and Willie D of the Geto Boys.

Bishop Don Juan, a self-described pimp and spiritual adviser to the stars, arrived just minutes before the ceremony ended, causing a stir as he sauntered down the aisle with an entourage of women scantily clad in gold and red while the pastor gave a fire-and-brimstone sermon. He was holding a pimp cup and wore a foot-tall crown and a blue velvet cape."

I mean where did he think he was going The Int'l Players Ball or something!

Queen Latfah Denies those Engagment Rumors.... Are You Surprised!

Just as we all suspected Queen Latifah has finally denied the rumors of engagement to her trainer. Queen had this to say to the Chicago Sun Times about the rumor:

”When you’re famous these days, it’s just part of the deal — unfortunately. People will make up all sorts of things that are not true. . . . There ain’t gonna be no wedding.”

I guess we just pulled out the fact that you dress like a dude and look butch from time to time out our ass too huh lol! Girl your in denial.

Your Money's Too Young Tell Your Bank Account to Grow Up... Scott Storch Beanie Siegal Edition

So we all remember super producer Scott Storch who had nearly 70 million but what happened to him? According to to the NY Post Storch's credit cards were all declined at a night club in Miami recently. And his 70 million worth has now dwindled down to 17 million according to Forbe's! Man talk about a downgrade.

And then there's Beanie Siegal who had trouble paying for a little Nissan rent-a-car in October and couldn't afford to get his Maserati out of a Philly impound for a measly 1700 bucks!

My only question for these two is what's next? LOL

Rapper Spice 1 Shot in the chest

Rapper Spice 1 was shot this morning in the chest while sleeping inside his car in the Bay Area. The rapper is in the hospital, listed in critical condition. There are no suspects or motives as of yet in the case, and the police have stated that two shots were fired, with only one of the shots hitting the artist.

Spice 1 achieved cult fame in the 1990s with songs like "187 Proof" and "Nineteen Ninety Sick", producing powerful gangsta rap with artists ranging from Tupac to Method Man, Cbo and nearly every other artist of note on the west coast.

Good luck Spice, we hope you make it through this one.

Diddy Shuts Down Cassie Love Get Away

Yesterday Page Six reported that Diddy and Cassie were indeed together and on vacation in Miami with each other but Diddy told Perez Hilton that he is very single saying: “I am still single and am not in love with anyone.” Well I guess that clears things up.... Yea right Diddy's publicist probably told him it wasn't a good look to have a new girlfriend when your ex girlfriend just had twins and your chick on the side just confirmed you all have a secret love child together..... Guess we'll have to wait till things die down to know the real truth lol!

Jailhouse Rock: Michael Vick Sentenced to 23 Months in the Slammer

Former Falcons Quarterback Michael Vick was sentenced to 23 months for dogfighting charges he faced earlier in the year!

Via CNN.com:

Michael Vick, once one of the highest paid players in the National Football League, was sentenced to 23 months in prison for financing a dogfighting ring and helping to kill pit bulls that did not fight aggressively.

Guess it really is a doggie dog world huh!

Damn We're Good... Cassie and Diddy are Together

Via Page Six:

SEAN “Diddy” Combs is in love again. The hip-hop mogul made the decision to “cut off the various girls he has around the world” and settle down with on-and-off flame Cassie - at least for now. “She recently broke up with her boyfriend, and they’re in Miami together now,” our source said of the singer. Friends on both sides of the camp are whispering about their reunion. “They’re holed up together in Miami, very low-key. He’s really in love with her.”

I know Kim is somewhere highly pissed off and you all thought he was gonna pop the question soon! Puhlease Diddy is much to smart for that, that bloodhound won't suck him till he's dry lol! Can't wait to see how this one plays out!

"Money Floyd" Mayweather Gets Active

In case you haven't heard Mayweather whipped the socks off of British fighter Ricky Hatton for the Welterweight title. The oh so cocky "Dancing with the Stars" contestant had this to say after the fight:

Via The Herald Times:

“What else is there for me to prove? I’ve beaten so many champions. I’ve beaten the brawlers and the boxers. And I can beat them at their own game, that’s the difference. I said I would fight him inside and I did. I knew he was going to get dirty and I had to do the same. There’s only one Mayweather. There’s only one Mayweather. He talks the talk, and he walks the walk, walking to the money land.”

Word has it Floyd's next fight will be trying to tackle the music world as a rapper..... Yea we'll see how that works out for ya Floyd!

Remy to Lil Kim: "That Little Boy Better Leave me Alone"

During some recent radio interviews Remy talked answered to Lil Kim's diss track by saying this:

Via Six Shot

“That little boy better leave me alone,” Remy said referring to Lil Kim. “ She was saying ‘I’m going at [Remy] hard, she go hard to me so I go hard back’. I feel like if that’s going at me hard, like seriously, I’m just gonna chill out. That’s crazy to me.”

“What did she say? ‘Put it on my lipstick, I was to be busy being conceited’. Like, how could you be conceited, you don’t even like your own face,” Remy continued. “ What are you talking about? Are you serious? How was I supposed to take that offensive.” “I don’t believe you,” stressed Remy. “ You don’t like your nose, you don’t like your cheek , you don’t like your chin, you don’t like your skin color, you don’t like your tits , you don’t like your stomach, you don’t like your teeth. What are you talking about?”

“At the end of the day it’s funny to me. When I really feel like it’s amusing, when I feel like someone’s getting at me, then I’ll drag them all over the first spot that I see them of course,” Remy continu ed. “ But in the meantime, in between time…like this chic has more ghostwriters than Foxy [Brown]. I just feel like right now she’s reaching,”

They both look like little boys if you ask me!

Throwback Pic of The Day... Weren't They Cute

Tupac and Jada back in the day! I wonder how Tupac would feel to know that Jada married Will Smith? I mean seriously, Tupac and Smith are very different kinds of rapeprs. But then again, was Will Smith ever really a rapper anyway? One thing we can say for sure: Will Smith was definite a better actor than Tupac, have you ever seen his old movies?

Trouble in Paradise: Jay-Z May Be Out of a Job!

Exec's over at Universal are saying that Jay has gotten a little ridiculous with his salary demands and expectations!

Via NY Daily News:

“He wanted big, big money that was way out of sync with the realities of today’s record business.”

Island/Def Jam CEO L.A. Reid and his boss, Doug Morris, are said to have found Jay’s demands “excessive” in light of the time he’s been spending on tour.

“People have lost count of how many times he’s come out of retirement. Everybody knows he’s not around the office much. Everybody at Universal loves him, but they can’t justify paying him the money he wants when so many people have been laid off.”

His contract is said to expire at the end of this month.

Nigga Nation- Award-winning film by Dorian Chandler

Pimp C Dies!

Pimp C was found dead in a Hollywood apartment this morning he was only 33 Via TMZ:

L.A. County Fire responded to a 911 call at the Mondrian Hotel, located on trendy Sunset Strip in Hollywood. They arrived to his sixth floor hotel room to find him dead in bed.

TMZ.com is reporting that the coroner argues that the death could have been due to natural causes. This surprises some, since people are used to musical artists dying from drugs or violence. It is our opinion here at yourblackworld that people should refrain from using judgment, since a dead black man doesn't mean he was killed by someone else.

Our hearts and prayers go out to his family during their time of loss.

Donda West was My Mother Too

When I heard the tragic news about Kanye West's mother, Donda, passing away, my mind was flushed with piercing thoughts. I thought about how proud I've been of Kanye, the artist with the courage to be different, the creativity to be a star, and the vision to tell George Bush what the hell the rest of us were thinking. Kanye even convinced me to avoid purchasing a diamond for my engagement because of the many Africans who continue to perish in the diamond mines.

I thought about his mother, a scholar like myself, who'd obviously raised her son to be the amazing human being he has become. When a black boy has the courage to tell the president to kiss his ass, it's usually because he has a strong, intelligent mother behind him yelling "Go on baby!" I know this well, for my own mother provided me with the courage to be strong in the face of adversity.

As a child, my mother used to say, "Boy, your mouth will either make you great or get you killed, I'm curious to see which one." With far less fanfare than Kanye, my mother's encouragement helped me endure the 2000 emails I received and nasty looks I got from campus colleagues after I verbally body-slammed President Bush during Hurricane Katrina. I speak for black males, which is about as popular as fighting for the rights of lab rats. Were it not for her instilling me with such a strong sense of self, I would have fallen for the same racially-charged intimidation of academia that make my colleagues say one thing in private and another in public.

So, in light of the fact that I connect so well to Kanye and Donda, I knew one thing was true: Donda West was my mother too. My mother didn't have a PhD, but being a black woman is harder than getting a double-doctorate. It's that "Black Female Double Doctorate" that helps a woman raise an empowered and fearless black boy in a world where black males are massively incarcerated, instantly murdered, consistently miseducated, overwhelmingly emasculated and horrifically criticized every single day of our lives. She put Kanye on the world's stage with more intelligence than the average Chicago Bear. He is the Muhammad Ali of his generation, with the vision to see far beyond a paycheck, bling and a damn hit record.

Her death hurt....a lot. But I am sure it hurt Kanye even more, for Donda's death was the death of an irreplaceable part of his being. His ability to change the world died just a little bit with the death of his inspiration. So, the entire world should be in mourning.

I also noticed how the physician who performed Donda's fatal surgery, Dr. Jan Adams, was being dragged through the mud for allegedly being incompetent. I don't know this man, but the dozens of times I've been on CNN, CBS and other networks tell me that you clearly cannot trust what the media says, especially about black doctors. It's normal for the media to try to make black doctors, lawyers and professors into quacks. I've had people with far less education than myself do the same thing to me. Black males would be much more readily accepted if we were athletes, entertainers or criminals. In these fields, our credentials are not questioned.

I also thought about Hollywood's psychological torture of black women, forcing them to feel that their bodies are not beautiful and perfect as they are. Tocarra Jones from America's next top Model was told she was too fat, although she was the first truly sexy woman I'd ever seen on TV. Janet Jackson was told as a child that her butt was too big to become a dancer. Lisa Nicole Carson went from voluptuous to Lindsay Lohan in 2 seconds flat. I hope that Dr. Donda West, the beautiful and amazing woman she was, didn't lose her life trying to fit an image that was meant for someone else. Her vision, purpose, and meaning to this world was far greater than a tummy tuck.
I never met Donda, and I haven't yet met Kanye. But I know my sibling when I see one, and I miss our mom already. Great black moms make the world go round, and Donda will be missed.

This is the Part Where You Slap YOURSELF for Speaking

"Darling, I don’t care what nobody think. Talk to me like you talking to Martin Luther King or Malcolm X. You’re not about to ask him about what he think about what somebody said about him. You ’bout to ask him about his greatness, and his greatness only. I don’t care what nobody think. If I did, you wouldn’t be sitting on my muthafuckin’ million-dollar bus in my 15th year at the same muthafuckin’ company and business. I’m a role model… "

-XXL Magazine interview with Lil Wayne (http://www.xxlmag.com/online/?p=16889)

Ghostface Tells Yayo to Suck it

Ghostface Killah sonned the hell out of Tony Yayo from G-Unit in a recent interview with Toshi from Rhaphsody. Here is the excerpt from the interview:
…‘Perb is Rae’s man. He been in the studio a few times while we’re doing sh*t. He ain’t write sh*t. All ‘Perb contributed was a couple of lines that you could put in the air. When we write, we all do that. “Say this one right here” or “Put this one right here.” We all catch lines with each other ‘cause you in the studio. You got n*gg*s around you that write. Even if he did write a verse, he could never make an album of mine. He couldn’t make an album, you feel me? I made Supreme Clientele what it is. Those are my stories, based around whatever they’re based upon. It’s me. I can’t see what songs ‘Perb wrote. He ain’t write “Mighty Healthy” or “One” or “Apollo Kids” or “Cherchez LaGhost” or “Saturday Nite” or “Malcolm.” But, Yayo can suck a fat d*ck. Tell him I said that. "
