Can't Leave Rap Alone the Game Needs Me!

Apparently Jay Z feels its so neccessary for him to release a Blueprint 3 album! And it seems he has wasted no time doing promo for it seeing as he's already released the first single "Aint I" on DJ Clue’s mixtape. Is it me or is he starting to spread himself thinner than a Steve Harvey's hairline? (the New One LOL)

Lil Wayne and Heath Ledger: What Drugs Do to Our Society

Shortly before Lil Wayne’s arrest, I’d recently become reacquainted with him. I’ve met a lot of artists through time, and even when I’d met Wayne a couple of years ago, I wasn’t impressed. I honestly didn’t feel, at the time, that his music was all that good. But this year, I was proven wrong. Lil Wayne came up like Godzilla from the ocean, and he now has my respect. Sort of.

Heath Ledger has had an equally meteoric rise, with that rise expected to go on full blast with his latest role as The Joker in the new Batman film. The Joker’s presence appears to be the central theme of the movie and I am sure there are rooms full of Hollywood executives trying to figure out how to manage the fact that one of the two most important people in their new blockbuster film is now lying in a casket.

I feel bad for Heath Ledger and Lil Wayne. It appears that both of them had an odd love affair with a set of mind altering substances.

There are at least three clear differences between Heath Ledger and Lil Wayne: First, one guy is dead and the other only has a death wish. Secondly, one guy’s substances are illegal, and the other guy’s stuff should be outlawed. Third, I am not sure if Heath Ledger ever had a chance to experience the greatness of Lil Wayne, and I would not be surprised if Lil Wayne missed out on Broke Back Mountain. I honestly missed it too, it was just too weird.

But that’s where the differences seem to end.

Drugs are everywhere. As a college professor, I’ve seen drugs destroy the lives of many otherwise normal, happy, healthy young people. What’s worse is that many of our greatest drug dealers are major corporations. I tire of seeing one commercial after another, seeking to bring out the hypochondriac in all of us. They overmedicate our kids to turn them into lifeless, wide-eyed, zombies. They tell old men that they can have bigger penises and use them more often. Anyone who can’t sleep or has a series of bad days is given something in a bottle that will make the bad days turn sunny.

Actually, they’re right. People on drugs are usually much happier than those who actually face their problems and work through them….at least for a while.
I am not here to say that psychiatric medication is not necessary. I like the idea that I can escape the pain of surgery and suddenly see Halle Berry in a bikini. However, the idea that our society allows an industry to make money hand over fist by getting us all hooked on their product is quite disturbing. Pookie on the corner offering hits to school children has been overshadowed by men in business suits showing up at the same school to offer a more powerful product.

Heath Ledger had problems, and his doctor gave him prescriptions to make it better. He eventually dies from an overdose. Lil Wayne surely has problems of his own, since the list of haters gets long when you’re on top. He found his own medication. Part of the reason I never wanted to be a huge celebrity is that the psychological toll can be astronomical. In this case, the inability to handle this toll has stolen the life of one of our most talented celebrities, and may steal the livelihood of another.

I must admit that all of this just makes me sad. But then again, I’m sure some company will soon offer me a drug that can make it go away. Perhaps I should see my pusher….err uhh…doctor. Either one would be just fine.

Nate Dogg Paralyzed After a Stroke

Hip Hop legend Nate Dogg is paralyzed on his left side after suffering a recent stroke. The artist, best known for providing back up vocals for major hit records, was admitted to Pomona Valley Hospital after his episode.

He is expected to make a full recovery.

Nate Dogg's real name is Nathaniel Hale, and he is the cousin of Snoop Dogg. He was a major back up hit maker before Akon and others came along to provide competition. He was best known for his work in the mid 1990s with Warren G and later work with Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg and others.

His representative, Rod McGrew, told MTV "Time will tell everything, obviously. The doctor can only guess what the outcome will be. But based on situations with similar people his age, and based on his health, the prognosis is good right now."

According to McGrew, there was no brain damage suffered by the artist and his vocal chords were not affected.

We at YourBlackWorld.com wish Nate Dogg and his family a full recovery. Hip hop won't be the same without him.

Khia Giving Advice.... What is the World Coming to?

Khia has an advice column in Hood Magazine.... Here's a little excerpt of the type of hoodnanigans that go on when you let Khia express her mind! Read below:

Khia,

Hey girl I hope you choose this to go in the magazine. My name is Lashawn and I’m seventeen down here in Dade county. Anyway I just had my second baby from a grown ass man, 27 to be exact, who said he was gone be there after the baby was born.

He kept fu*king me while I was pregnant all the way up to the doctor said I couldn’t have any more sex. After that he disappeared. I feel so lost. What should I do?

- - LaShawn

More under the Hood

AMBER ALERT!

Somebody call the police, there’s a molestor on the loose!!!! Oh my bad, I guess I’m the only one who see’s this is a crime. What’s really hood Lashawn? Sorry to be so blunt but you were f*cking a child molestor and be glad he’s gone. I know you may think you’re in love, but this was never love on his end. This was a grown ass man f*cking a vulnerable child, now about to be a mother. My advice to you is it’s time to grow up and the first lesson you have to learn is:

Don’t trust no nigga
Trust no man but God
Love yourself and respect your body
Don’t let anyone talk you out of your panty pudding

You let this man f*ck you with no protection and get you pregnant. Girl you slipping and its time for you to start preparing for your child. He or she needs you to give them the love that you missed along the way and trust me you won’t find that love in any man, only from God and within yourself. Get prayed up and surround yourself with women of wisdom who can help you along the way. Why are you worried about the man, its time to give all that love and energy to your child and I promise you he/she will love you back and never leave you. With big sister love, I’m praying for you and your family!!!

While some points are good valid points let's not forget about the fact that this girl has some serious self esteem issues! Let's focus on her first! How can we expect Khia to give others advice when she herself can't even get it together! Black people we got to do better! LOL

Mary J. Blige, Timbaland, 50 Cent Linked to Steroids

One doesn't quite expect to see a name like Mary J. Blige on a list of clients allegedly using steroids. But that's just what federal investigators say they found.

The Times Union of Albany, NY cited unidentified law enforcement officials in reporting that Mary J. Blige, 50 Cent, Timbaland, Wyclef Jean and Tyler Perry were all listed as having received performance-enhancing drugs.

The officials stated that the entertainers are not alleged to have broken the law, and that the investigation is focused on doctors, pharmacists and clinics that provided the drugs.

David P. Soares, District Attorney in Albany, launched the investigation last year. He is neither confirming nor denying the names linked in the investigation.

A spokesman for Mary J. Blige denies that the singer has taken any illegal steroids. Tyler Perry's spokesman declined to comment.

Athletes use steroids to get faster and stronger to perform at a higher level. However, entertainers benefit from steroids due to their anti-aging qualities. Steroids have been in the news a great deal lately, due to federal investigations into Major League Baseball. Additionally, sprinter Marion Jones was sent to prison recently for perjury in a trial involving her steroid abuse.

The investigation in Albany is part a of multi-state initiative, focused on Signature Pharmacy in Orlando, FL. Thus far, 10 individuals have pleaded guilty and there are reports that professional athletes may have been implicated as well.

Ice Cube Continues to Dominate the Film Industry

Ice Cube's new flick, First Sunday, was #2 on the Friday box office estimates. The film had an estimated take of $17.25M, putting it second behind "Bucket List", starring Morgan Freeman and Jack Nicholson. "Bucket List" is estimated to have taken in $18.6M.

Ice Cube, considered one of the founding fathers of the multi-billion dollar gangster rap industry, has turned himself into a high powered film maker. What is most impressive about Ice Cube's resume is that he has been able to produce albums regularly, family films, and urban comedies, sometimes in the same year. Most artists are only able to brand themselves for a particular genre, without the ability to serve multiple demographics.

IceCube has incredibly successful at creating lasting series, earnings millions for the "Friday" series, along with "Barbershop" and "Are We There Yet?"

Some consider Ice Cube to be a film making genius.

"As a business school professor, I can say that Ice Cube is more brilliant than any dot com billionaire," says Syracuse University Finance Professor, Dr. Boyce Watkins. "He was able to take virtually no capital and create multi-million dollar films that served a clear and necessary niche in filmmaking. In fact, the film "Friday" was about two guys sitting on a porch. That's as inexpensive as you can get."

ICE CUBE'S ALL-TIME TOP FILM OPENINGS

1. Barbershop 2: Back in Business - $24.2M
2. Barbershop - $20.6M
3. Are We There Yet? - $18.5M
4. First Sunday - $17.25M (estimate)
5. Anaconda - $16.6M
6. Three Kings - $15.8M
7. Next Friday - $14.4M
8. Are We Done Yet? - $14.2M
9. Higher Learning - $13.2M
10. Friday After Next - $13M

TI Hurt - The Tightest Song Out in 2007

TI is still the best rapper in America. Jail or not, he is as talented as Tupac. Tupac was great, I used to listen to him every morning when I was in graduate school. I still love his stuff, and he became great when he got with Dr. Dre (in my opinion). But TI is the stuff that legends are made of. He and Chamillionaire also both possess the ability to understand the complexities of racism, business, politics and social injustice and I predict that they will become more politically involved through time.

Oh that weapons charge on TI? I'm not sure how that's going to turn out. But I honestly think that TI, as sharp as this brother is, will find a way to get out of this one. Not to say that he won't do any time, he has a target on his back and the feds are looking for him to slip up. He probably does slip up at times. But this brother has CEO/Rocket scientist genius, and I know that he is going to bounce back.

I use alot of hip hop with my show, "Boiling Hot with Boyce Watkins". Some people like it, some don't, I personally don't give a damn. Someone once asked me "You are a highly educated brother, and why do you dumb yourself down by connecting yourself with rappers?"

I looked at the stupid &^%$*@ and said "Don't you realize that rappers are smarter than most PhDs I know? It's just a different form of intellect, and you are not smart enough to understand it." People assume that because rappers talk about the street that they are not as sharp as some one-dimensional geek who has spent his whole life inside a physics book.

I beg to differ.

Actually, it takes more intelligence, creativity, discipline, determination, focus, passion and courage to make it in the street than it does to make it on a college campus. If you slip up in college, you go live with your parents. You slip up in the street, you end up dead. There are fewer resources to use, more obstacles to overcome, more traps set out for your demise. When you can dodge all those bullets and still end up on top, you are clearly representing survival of the fittest. Most of my friends at Ivy League schools could never make it in such an environment.

Bottom line: when a rapper has overcome all this and still ends up on top (i.e. TI, 50 Cent, LL Cool J, Eminem) they clearly represent survival of the fittest. This achievement beats out the accomplishmnts of a pampered, overprotected clown like George Bush any day.

Nuff said.

Jay Z, Beyonce and Diddy Don't Barack the Vote!

According to a report a slew of high up black celebs and entertainment folk do not support Barack Obama! Peep the quote below:

But neither Sean “Diddy” Combs nor Shawn “Jay Z” Carter has pitched in for the Illinois senator as of yet. Jay Z’s fiancĂ©e Beyonce Knowles has also remained silent……Neither has Spike Lee nor Denzel Washington. Also missing from Obama’s list of donors in the current election cycle is BET Chairman and Founder billionaire Robert L. Johnson.

Vivica Fox Says She Has No Sex Tape

According to Fox news, actress Vivica A. Fox is "brushing off" the latest rumors of her having a sex tape released by her boyfriend. The man allegedly filmed Fox giving him oral sex and then distributed the tape to his friends via the Internet.

It was later reported by Porsche Foxx on V-103 that the tape was indeed real and that people were sending it to one another. Instances of the tape on the internet were removed from most websites.

Atlanta police spokesperson James Polite told The New York Daily News "At this time, we have no formal complaint from Miss Fox." Some have speculated that Fox sought advice from a friend on the police department and may have skipped formal procedures.

"If it was something that was consensual, we're not looking at a crime, per se," Polite said. "If the [boyfriend] is trying to extort Miss Fox, that's when we begin to look at a criminal element."

If this is indeed a publicity stunt, it is the latest in a long string of interesting behavior on the part of Vivica. Last month, she was booked for drunken driving and could end up with a $1,000 fine and a one year jail term. When she was arrested, she referred to the officer as a "White racist cop."

Fox also dated the rapper 50 Cent when he released his first album. The rapper eventually broke it off with Fox after feeling that she was only dating him to obtain publicity.

Iowa Barack's the Vote!

This is just a preview of what's to come good luck to the whole Obama camp! Yall really made it rain on dem hoes keep up the good work!

Mo Money Mo Problems - Remy Ma Hit Up for 20 Million

The AP is reporting that Remy Ma is being sued for $20M for the alleged shooting of Makeda Barnes-Joseph. Ma is alleged to have shot the woman over $2,000 that she thought she stole from her.

The lawsuit claims that the shooting left Barnes-Joseph disabled, anxious and depressed. Universal Music Group is also named in the lawsuit, since they should have known that Remy has "had a history of unlawful, violent and anti-social behavior."

The defendants "encouraged her to engage in a pattern of harassment, threats, intimidation, physical violence and illegal acts which were designed and calculated by these defendants to enhance, market and promote the persona of 'Remy Ma,'" the records have shown in the lawsuit.

The troubles don't stop there for Remy Ma. Since the alleged shooting, she has not been able to get booked regularly due to legal liability and the judge told her that she could not do her tour overseas because she is awaiting trial for the shooting.

Damn girl, life is getting complicated, ain't it?
